FAQS ABOUT INTERNET DIRECT CONNECTION

Please note Clavinova, Piano and Keyboard owners: We regret to inform you that Yamaha will terminate its Internet Direct Connection (IDC) streaming subscription service for the instruments listed below at the end of June 2016. (For Disklavier owners, the service will continue "as is".)

After June 2015, renewals of Piano Radio annual subscriptions will not be available in anticipation of the termination for these models, but existing subscriptions will continue to their completion.

For questions, please contact customer support at 1-866-430-2652 (in the United States), or visit www.yamahamusicsoft.com/en/help.

What is Internet Direct Connection?

Internet Direct Connection is a feature included on select Yamaha keyboards that allows you to connect your instrument directly to the Internet. Internet Direct Connection users are able to access different services and content directly from their instrument.

Connecting to the Internet Direct Connection Site

1. What kind of internet connection do I need to use Internet Direct Connection?

Internet Direct Connection works with high-speed Internet connections on a wireless or cable-connected network. Dial up connections are not compatible with Internet Direct Connection.

2. Do I need any special equipment to use Internet Direct Connection?

Yes, in order to share an Internet connection between your instrument and your computer, you will need a router. If you wish to connect wirelessly, you may choose to purchase a wireless adapter. Older instrument models may also require a USB Ethernet adapter in order to connect their instrument to the Internet. Click here to see a list (PDF) of compatible equipment for your instrument.

3. Where can I get more information on adjusting my Internet Direct Connection settings?

For detailed information on adjusting your settings, please refer to your User Manual. If you have lost your user manual, please visit the Yamaha Manual Library.

Downloading Files

1. How many files can I download?

There is no limit to the number of files you can download, but you may occasionally run out of internal storage space. In these instances you can make room by (1) moving some files to your PC, USB flash drive or smart media card (2) deleting files you no longer need.

2. Can I copy/transfer files to my computer?

Most files offered through Internet Direct Connection are unencrypted files that can be transferred and copied for personal use. You may use the USB connector cable, USB flash drive or smart media card to copy and transfer these files.

Some files are encrypted at the instruction of the rights holder and follow some special rules (listed below). You can identify encrypted files by the "key" icon located next to the song title in the "Song" folder on your instrument.

USING ENCRYPTED FILES WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT When the original song file is present on the instrument, the user can: (1) Edit encrypted files from within the instrument using the Song Creator function. (2) Make multiple versions of the song file and save edited song on the instrument as different files in the same directory as the original file.

MOVING ENCRYPTED FILES (1) User can MOVE the encrypted file to their PC via Musicsoft Downloader using a MIDI or USB-MIDI cable. However, by moving the song file, the original file will be erased from the instrument. (2) Edited versions of the original file can be moved and played without the original file. (3) When the song is moved onto USB flash drive, smart media and/or PC, it is re-encrypted by unique ID the smart media or PC. Therefore, it's usable ONLY on that media or PC.

USING ENCRYPTED FILES ON A COMPUTER (1) Encrypted files may be stored on a computer within the Musicsoft Downloader application. Encrypted files or edited versions of encrypted files cannot be played back or (re)edited on computers.
